What do you hope for your students?
Social justice is a huge part of a competent counselor identity. As a counselor educator, I take great pride in helping my students connect with their own humanity, their own oppression, and more often, their own privilege. Most of my students are White, cis, able bodied, and Christian. Helping them become aware of the communities outside of their own ultimately has a positive ripple effect in their own community and most importantly, they themselves are changed. Even if they don’t become counselors, my hope is that they at least become better human beings.
